Students will visit Maroon communities, stay with homestay families, and visit important cultural and historical sites. Students will gain valuable insight into the successful resistance to colonialism as well as modern day resilience to challenges faced by the people of Jamaica.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Kingston, explore the history of Emancipation Park, welcome group dinner and orientation

Day 2

Tour Port Royal heritage and historical site, visit Marcus Garvey Multi-media Museum

Day 3

Conversation with community leaders of Jamaica’s first free town, Charles Town. Meet homestay families

Day 4

Guided hike to Maroon historical site, traditional dance and drumming lesson, visit to museum

Day 5

Visit Moore Town, another Maroon community and meet with community leaders, hike to Nanny Falls

Day 6

Tour Rastafari Indigenous Village, Transport to Montego Bay 

Day 7

Visit cultural center and market, free time at the beach
