A high number of Oaxacans travel to the United States, and the city is also on the migration route from Central and South America. Students will learn about the local culture and history, dive deep into the topic of migration, and also have the opportunity to enjoy Oaxaca’s unforgettable natural, historical and gastronomical attractions. 

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive to Oaxaca airport, orientation, welcome group dinner

Day 2

Historical and cultural tour of the city, wood carving workshop

Day 3

Visit indigenous village, meet with community leaders and recently returned migrant workers, workshop with women’s artisan cooperative 

Day 4

Visit archeological site Monte Alban, meet with families in a migration support center  

Day 5

Learn about migration and gastronomy, visit market with meet local chef, culinary workshop

Day 6

Conversations with migrant descendants, eco- or cultural-tourism activity

Day 7

Tour of archeological site of Mitla, relax in natural mineral springs, farewell group meal
